The Zurich Maraton de Sevilla is extending the number of registrations to celebrate its 40th edition and to give a response to the athletes who are currently on the waiting list since last August 12th when the 12,000 available bibs were sold out. The registration period opens today so that 2,000 more runners can register for the race on 23 February 2025 and reach a total of 14,000 runners, which would be the historical record of participation. They will be allocated in strict order of the waiting list that has been available on the event's official website since the summer.
In total, there will definitely be 14,000 participants at the start of the Zurich Maraton de Sevilla 2025. This figure will surpass the historical record of 13,700 marathon runners achieved in 2018.
The 40th edition of the Seville Marathon will surpass the historical participation records after selling out the first batch of bibs six months in advance of the event (23 February). The Seville City Council has decided to open another 2,000 extra places to try to satisfy the high demand of national and international marathon runners who hope to participate in the flattest marathon in Europe and one of the fastest in the world. The expectation is enormous among popular runners and elite athletes who agree in valuing the speed of the circuit (totally flat, at sea level and monumental), the special weather conditions in February in the Andalusian capital and the opportunity to run through the historic centre of one of the most attractive cities in the world.
The Zurich Maraton de Sevilla, which in its last edition was one of the six fastest marathons in history with up to 11 national records broken and became the race with the highest number of sub 2h10 and 2h15 athletes and the second with sub 2h30 women of all time, has already managed to beat some of the participation records for 2025, with 21% of women registered (17% in the last edition) and more than half of the runners from abroad (53% compared to 47% in 2024). The Seville Marathon is the fourth fastest Marathon so far this year in terms of elite men.
The Zurich Maraton de Sevilla is organised by the Seville City Council with the collaboration of Sport Life Ibérica and the sponsorship of Asics and TotalEnergies.
